Ernesti, Gunther Gottlieb an Evangelical preacher of Germany, was born June 25, 1759, at Coburg. He studied at Jena, was for some time employed by the minister for ecclesiastical affairs at Hildburghausen, and died. there, June 28, 1797, being court-preacher at the time. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
