Fischer, Friedrich a Lutheran theologian of Germany, was born in 1558. In 1586 he was rector at Grimma, and accepted a call in 1594 to Bautzen, where he died, in 1623, leaving, Decalogus: or thirty-eight sermons on the decalogue (Bautzen, 1608): — Oratio Dominica, or fifteen sermons on the Lord's Prayer (ibid. 1611): — Misteriodidascalia, or twenty-two sermons on baptism and the Lord's supper (Wittenberg, eod.): — Paedagogia Christiana,a or twenty sermons on the catechism (ibid. 1613). John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
