Gaab Johann Friedrich, a German theologian, was born at Gdppingeme, in Wartemberg, October 10, 1761. In 1792 he became professor extraordinarius, in 1798 professor ordinarius of philosophy at Tubingen; in 1814, librarian of the university; in 1822, general superiatendent, in which office he remained till his death, March 2, 1832. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
