Gad'ite (Heb. Gadi', גָּדַי, mostly collect. and with the art.; Sept. Γάδ, Γαδδί, υὶὸς Γάδ, etc.), the descendants of GAD (q.v.), the son of Jacob (Nu 34:14; De 3:12,16; De 4:43; De 29:8; Jos 12:6; Jos 13:8; Jos 22:1; 2Sa 23:36; 2Ki 10:33; 1Ch 5:18,26; 1Ch 12:8,37; 1Ch 26:32).

John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
