Ge'ber (Heb. id. גֶּבֶר, a valiant man, as often Sept. Γάβηρ, Josephus Γαβάρης, Ant. 8:2, 3), the son of Uri, and one of Solomon's purveyors, having sole (i.e. supreme) jurisdiction (נצַיב) over Gilead (1Ki 4:19); from which fact he appears to be the same as BEN-GEBAR ("son of Geber") mentioned is verse 13 as having charge of the same region, unless, indeed, the latter were a deputy or assistant to his father. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
