Gervais prior of St. Generic, in the diocese of Mans, and a French historian, lived in the 13th century. All that is known of him is that, at the request of Robert of Thorigny, who became abbot of Mont St. Michel, he wrote a History of the Counts of Anjou and of Mainze. After: remaining for a long time unpublished, it was inserted in the Recuzeil des Historiens de la France, 12:532, from a manuscript in the Imperial Library, belonging to the monastery of St. Victor. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
