Giron (Garcias de Loycasu), Don Pedro a Spanish prelate and scholar, was born at Talavera in 1542. He was the son of Pedro Giron, member of the Council of Castile. He pursued his philosophical and theological studies at Alcala. Being appointed canon of Toledo, he became archdeacon of Guadalaxara on the withdrawal of his uncle, Lopez de Carnajel. In 1585 Philip II called him to his court as almoner and master of the chapel, and a little later intrusted to him the teaching of his little son, don Philip. In 1596 cardinal Albert of Austria appointed him grand-vicar of the archbishopric of Toledo. In 1598 he obtained the title of archbishop of the diocese which he governed. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
