He graduated from Dickinson College in 1803 with the first honors of his class; studied theology privately; was licensed by the New Castle Presbytery in 1810; ordained pastor of the Church at Reading in 1814, and died June 26, 1829. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
