Guevara, Don Juan Nino de an eminent Spanish painter, was born at Madrid in 1632 and was instructed in the school of Miguel Manrique. There are many of his works at Malaga, Cordova, and Granada. In the Church de la Charidad, at Malaga, is a fine picture of 'The Triumph of the Cross; and in the cathedral, The Ascension of Christ, and The Assumption of the Virgin. He died at Malaga in 1698. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
