a Protestant Episcopal clergyman, a graduate of the General Theological Seminary, was employed as rector of the Church in Bethany, Connecticut, in 1853; the following year became assistant minister of a church in Baltimore, Maryland; and shortly after was chosen rector of Trinity Church, Seneca Falls, N.Y., where he remained until his death, July 20, 1878, at the age of seventy-seven years. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
