Hesychius an Egyptian bishop of the 3rd century, who is mentioned by Eusebius (Hist. Eccles. 8, 13) as a reviser of the text of the Septuagint (see also Jerome, De vir. illust. 77). He also published an edition of the New Testament, of which Jerome does not appear to have formed a favorable opinion. He obtained the crown of martyrdom in the Dioclesian persecution about A.D. 311. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
