a Presbyterian minister, was born at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1777. He graduated from Columbia College in 1795; studied theology privately, and was licensed to preach by the New York Presbytery in 1801. In 1802 he accepted a call to the First Presbyterian Church of Baltimore. He died August 15, 1820. He published, A Sermon on Fasting, Humiliation, and Prayer (1808 ): — A Missionary Sermon, preached in Philadelphia in 1812: — and a Discourse, delivered in the First Presbyterian Church of Baltimore in 1814. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
