Jacob Ben-Isaac of Prague, who died about 1628, is the author of צאינה וראינה, or a Judeo-German midrash on the Pentateuch, the five Megilloth and Haftaras (Amsterdam, 1648, and often; partly translated into Latin by Saubert, Helmstadt, 1660; Engl. transl. by Hershon, Lond. 1865); a modern imitation is the La Semaine Israelite, by B. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
