Poelenburg, Arnold a Dutch theologian, was born Sept. 12, 1628, at Horn, in the Netherlands, where he also became pastor in 1653, after having completed his studies. He removed to Rotterdam, and in 1659 became professor of theology of the Remonstrants (q.v.), and died Oct. 30, 1666. He wrote, Confutatio disputtationis F' Spanhemii de quinque articulis controversis, cuan refutatione argumenti Guil. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
