Ra'mathite (Heb. Ramathi', רָמָתַי, al inhubit(nt of Ramab; Sept. ὁ Ραμαθαῖος), all epithet of the Shimei (q.v.) who was over the vineyards of king David (1Ch 27:27). The name implies that he was native of a place called Ramah, but of the vaniouts Ramahs mentioned none is said to have been remarkable for vines; nor is there any tradition or other clue by which the particular Ramahi to which this worthy belonged call be identified. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
