Renmalyahu, רמִליָהוּ, protected of Jehovah; Sept. ῾Ραμελίος or ῾Ρομελίος, v. r. ῾Ρομελία), the father of Pekah, king of Israel (2Ki 15:25,27,30, 32, 37; 16:1, 5; 2Ch 28:6), probably a man whose character was such as to make his name a reproach to his descendants (Isa 7:4-5; Isa 8:6). John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
