Roldan, Pedro, a Spanish sculptor, was born in 1624 at Seville. He studied at Rome, where he was a member of the Academy of St. Luke. Roldan executed a great number of works in Madrid and at Seville, the best of which is a Christ on the Cross. He died in 1700.

John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
