Sadeel (Prop. Chandieu), Antoine,
one of the promoters of the Reformation, was born, 1534, at the castle of Chabot, in the Maconnais. At the age of twenty he was invited to preach to a congregation of the Reformed at Paris. Attacked by the priests, he was employed by the Protestants to draw up a vindication, was imprisoned the next year, 1558, but was released by the king of Navarre. He went to Orleans, where, in 1562, he presided at a national synod. He then went to Berne, and finally to Geneva, where, from 1589, he labored as preacher and professor of Hebrew until his death, Feb. 23, 1591. He wrote against the Jesuits, Sophismata F. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
