He was the carton's personal attendant, and sat in the secondary row of stalls: hence his name. At Chichester the secondary sang the daily mass of requiem in the Lady-chapel. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock.
