Shu'a, the name of a Hebrew and a Hebrewess, which appears in different forms in the original.
1. (Heb. Shu'a, שׁוּעִ, wealth, or a cry for help, or an oath; Sept. Σαύα or Σαυά v.r. Σουέ.) A Canaanite of Adullam, whose daughter (hence named only as Bathshua in the original) was Judah's wife, and the mother of his first three children (Ge 38:2,12 [in both passages the A.V. has incorrectly "Shuah"]; 1Ch 1:32). 2. (Heb. Shua', שׁוּעָא, id.; Sept. Σωλά.) Daughter of Heber, a grandson of Asher, whose three sons are likewise enumerated (1Ch 7:32). B.C. post 1874.

John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
