Sicyon, in Grecian mythology, was a son of Marathon, Metion, Erechtheus, or Pelops, and the husband of Xeurippe, daughter of king Lamedon of Sicyon. The town was named Mecone or Egialoe, but is said to have received its subsequent name from him (see Pausan. ii, 1, 1; 7:2, 3; Strabo, 8:382).

John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
