To'hu (Heb. To'cihu, תֹּחוּ, lowly; Sept. θοού v.r. θοκέ; Vulg. Thohu), son of Zuph and father of Elihu among the ancestors of Samuel (1Sa 1:1); probably the same elsewhere called TOAH (1Ch 6:34) or NAHATH SEE NAHATH(q.v.) (ver. 26).

He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
