Udall, Ephraim a loyal Puritan divine of the 17th century, was educated at Emanuel College, Cambridge, where he took his degree of A.B. in 1609, and that of A.M. in 1614. His only preferment appears to have been the rectory of St. Augustine's, Watling Street, London, but the time of his admission is not stated. He was sequestered in 1643, having declared openly for episcopacy' and the liturgy. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
