Udvarde, the Council of
was held in 1309, under Charles I king of Hungary, and Thomas, archbishop of Strigonia. It was decreed,
1. That the angelical salutation should be rung out at noon, or at the close of the day.
2. That the inhabitants of Buda should pay some impost which they had endeavored to evade.
4. The constitutions of cardinal Gentil were read, and an order made that a copy should be sent to every prelate, to use in his own diocese; the other regulations have perished. See Mansi, Concil. Suppl. 3, 335.

John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
