U'lam (Heb. Ulam', אוּלָם, porch; Sept. Οùλάμ v.r. occasionally Αἰλέμ), the name of two Hebrews.
1. First named of the two sons of Sheresh and father of Bedan in the Gileadite posterity of Manasseh (1Ch 6:16-17). B.C. cir. 1618.
2. The first-born of Eshek among the descendants of king Saul, and the ancestor of one hundred and fifty valiant archers (1Ch 8:39-40). B.C. cir. 588.

John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
