Ulff, Hermann Wilhelm a Swedish theologian, was born June 19, 1830, and studied at Upsala and Erlangen. In 1867 he commenced his academical career at Upsala, in 1872 he was made pastor at Stora Skedwi, in 1877 doctor of theology, and died December 18, 1882, greatly lamented by the Lutheran Church of Sweden. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
