Valerio, Samuel a Jewish physician who flourished in the island of Corfu in the 16th century, is the author of יד המל, or a commentary on the book of Esther (Ven. 1586), in which he made use of the Talmud, of Jewish .and Christian exegetical works, of the philosophical, writings among Jews and Arabs; חזון למועד, or a commentary on Daniel (ibid. eod.). John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
