Van Dyck, Hamilton a minister of the Reformed (Dutch) Church, was born in 1807. He graduated at Hamilton College in 1826, and at York Theological Seminary in 1829. He preached at Chambersburg, Pa., 1829-33; and at Prattsville, N.Y., 1833-36. His constitution having been broken down by severe study during his seminary course, he died in 1836. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
