Vidal, Diego (called the Elder), a Spanish painter, was born at Valmaseda in 1583. He is said to have studied at Rome, and acquired some reputation as an artist. He was a prebendary of the Cathedral of Seville, and painted there a naked Christ, and the Virgin with the Infant in her Arms. His drawings are also spoken of in terms of commendation. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
