Wadsworth, Benjamin (1), D.D.
an American Congregational minister, uncle of John W. (below), was born at Milton, Mass., in 1669. He graduated at Harvard College in 1690; was ordained in 1696, and preached at the First Church, Boston, until 1725; was president of Harvard College from 1725 until his death, which occurred March 16, 1737. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
