(עֹמֶר הִתְּנוּפָה, Sept. δράγμα τοῦ ἐπιθέματος, A.V. "sheaf of the wave- offering," Leviticus 23:15) was the first-fruit of the harvest, which at the beginning of the harvest or Passover (q.v.) was presented to the Jehovah by the ceremony of waving (Leviticus 23:11; Leviticus cf., 15). John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
