Weidner, Paul a Jewish convert of Carinthia who joined the Christian Church in 1588, was professor of Hebrew at the Vienna University, and was appointed by imperial permission to preach occasionally to the Jews. He wrote Loca Praecipua Fidei Christianae Collecta et Explicata (Vienna, 1559; 2nd ed. 1562, with Epistola Hebr. ad R. Jehudam, Venet. Habitantem, cum Ves- sione Latina). John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry. McClintock entered the University of Pennsylvania in 1832 and graduated with high honors three years later.
