a Presbyterian minister, was born at Leetsdale, Pennsylvania, November 20, 1807. He graduated from Jefferson College, and in the first class at the Western Theological Seminary at Allegheny. He served with eminent ability as professor of languages in the Ohio University, and subsequently filled the same chair in his alma mater at Cannonsburg, Pennsylvania, being at the time a member of the Presbytery of Allegheny. John McClintock was born October 27, 1814 in Philadelphia to Irish immigrants, John and Martha McClintock. He began as a clerk in his father's store, and then became a bookkeeper in the Methodist Book Concern in New York. Here he converted to Methodism and considered joining the ministry.
