Hope for the Hopeless by Bert & Liz Genaille The man of the Gadarenes Luke 8:26-40 I have been very encouraged by this story about the man of the Gadarenes. Because of his condition he was an outcast and probably poor and had no education. But Jesus happened to pass by and delivered him from his situation, being a demon possessed man. The demons that were in him went into the swine, the swine immediately ran into the water and drowned. The keepers seeing what happened to the man and the swine then ran and told the people. It seemed they had more compassion on the swine than on the man even though there was great change in the man. They asked Jesus to depart from them "we don't want you here". As Jesus was in the boat the man wanted to follow and go with Jesus, but Jesus told him in verse 39 to "go home to your own house and tell what great things God has done for you." In Mark 5:20 the man went to Decapolis ( which is 10 towns in the area). Why I say this man encourages me is that he went out with no Bible school, no evangelism course, no follow up but with just what Jesus did for him. and even then the people in verse 37 didn't want Jesus in their midst, even after hearing this man's testimony of what great things Jesus had done for him. So when Jesus returned verse 40 they were waiting for him and ready to listen. So how about us? We have no excuse even if we say we're not smart, we have no training we can all tell what great things God has done for us. You who do not know the Lord as your personal Saviour, you have not sunk so low as this man in the Gadarenes that Jesus cannot reach you. He is able and he is willing to pull you out of your pit. Call on Him and trust in Him, and He will do what He says He will do.
