In these scripture passages, Jesus speaks of two needs. He speaks of his disciples needing rest, Sabbath. And Jesus knows that the people need a shepherd. We still need both of these things, but we often try to do without much in the way of rest or Sabbath. And we are even more resistant to having a shepherd. We hate to admit that we need guidance and direction, that we can't make it on our own.
