Romans 6:1–14 (CSB) - Baptism & The Resurrection

Baptism Reveals That We Are Unified With Christ
Romans 6:1–3 (CSB) 1 What should we say then? Should we continue in sin so that grace may multiply? 2 Absolutely not!
How can we who died to sin still live in it?  3 Or are you unaware that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?

Baptism Reveals That We Are Unified With Christ in Victory Over Sin
Romans 6:1–3 (CSB) 1 What should we say then? Should we continue in sin so that grace may multiply? 2 Absolutely not!
How can we who died to sin still live in it?  3 Or are you unaware that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?

1 John 3:5–9 (CSB) 5 You know that he was revealed so that he might take away sins, and there is no sin in him. 6 Everyone who remains in him does not sin; everyone who sins has not seen him or known him. 7 Little children, let no one deceive you. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. 8 The one who commits sin is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of God was revealed for this purpose: to destroy the devil’s works. 9 Everyone who has been born of God does not sin, because his seed remains in him; he is not able to sin, because he has been born of God.

Galatians 5:1 (CSB)1 For freedom, Christ set us free. Stand firm, then, and don’t submit again to a yoke of slavery.

1 Peter 2:16 (CSB)16 Submit as free people, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but as God’s slaves.

Baptism Reveals That We Are Unified With Christ in Victory Over The Old Life
Romans 6:4-7 (CSB) 4 Therefore we were buried with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united with him in the likeness of his death, we will certainly also be in the likeness of his resurrection. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be rendered powerless so that we may no longer be enslaved to sin, 7 since a person who has died is freed from sin.

We know that our old life is gone - we know that our old self was crucified

Galatians 2:20 (CSB) 20 I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

We do not walk in the old ways of life for we have died to those things.

We are resurrected just as He is - we will certainly also be in the likeness of his resurrection.

We are to walk in new life - we too may walk in the newness of life.

Baptism Reveals That We Are Unified With Christ in Victory Over Death
Romans 6:8-11 (CSB) 8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him, 9 because we know that Christ, having been raised from the dead, will not die again. Death no longer rules over him. 10 For the death he died, he died to sin once for all time; but the life he lives, he lives to God. 11 So, you too consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (CSB) 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!
