This "Thanksgiving Sermon," delivered at the First Presbyterian Church of New Orleans, on Thursday, November 29, 1860, by Rev. Benjamin Morgan Palmer, D.D. (1818-1902), a prominent spokesman of the Confederate cause during the U.S. Civil War, is a defense of the Southern causes of slavery and secession from the United States. This sermon was said to influence Louisiana's decision to join the Confederate States in seceding from the Union.
