Responding to Authority (Luke 20: 1-2 - Part 1)

When Jesus reclaimed the Herodian Temple for prayer 2,000 years ago, it pictured what He would eventually do on an individual level. God desires for us to worship Him, and He wants it to be done in Spirit and in truth. Worship isn’t about making you feel good, but rather your reaction when confronted with the magnificent glory of God. To restore that which was lost, the Lord took action; dismantling the Court of Gentiles, He drove out everyone who made it into a den of thieves. At present, nothing has changed; what He did back then is still being practiced. Purifying the Temple grounds had to happen, but that only set the stage for what would take place next. What He Gave (Matthew 26: 26-30)

It’s truly sad when the world looks at Jesus as simply a good teacher or moral leader. Anyone who thinks that hasn’t seriously investigated the Word of God. Before the Lord even came as a child, we learn in Isaiah 43:11-13 that He pronounced, "I, even I, am the Lord, and there is no Savior besides Me. [12] It is I who have declared and saved and proclaimed, and there was no strange god among you; so you are My witnesses," declares the Lord, "And I am God. [13] Even from eternity I am He, and there is none who can deliver out of My hand; I act and who can reverse it?" In Hosea 13:4, He says, “There is no Savior besides Me.” That same theme runs into the New Testament, where at His birth in Matthew 1:21 an angel tells Joseph that Mary “will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins”. Paul testified that “it is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all” (1 Timothy 1:15). Even the Apostle John wrote that Jesus “appeared in order to take away sins” (1 John 3:5). These passages tell us first and foremost that Jesus came as a Seeking Savior of the lost. Is that how you see Him? Are you curious to hear more about Him as the Deliverer of souls?
