What if the most shocking part of the prodigal son story isn’t how far the son ran, but how fast the Father ran to meet him?

In this message, we slow down and walk scene by scene through one of the most beloved stories Jesus ever told. A son demands his inheritance, wastes it all, and ends up longing for pig food in a far country. But while he’s still a long way off, rehearsing his apology, his father sees him, is filled with compassion, and runs to embrace him. The robe, the ring, the sandals, and the feast aren’t just nice gestures. They’re declarations of identity: "you belong here, you have access to everything in my house, and you are not merely tolerated, you are delighted in."

Whether you’re far from God, praying for someone who is, or wondering what it means for a church to carry the Father’s heart, this message is for you. The journey home starts with two honest prayers: “God, I need You,” and “God, I’ve sinned against You.” And the good news of the gospel is that we didn’t have to find our way back to God. In Jesus, God came to find us.

What if one small step of faith could bear fruit for centuries?

Five families started McLean Bible Church in 1961, with no idea what God would do through their simple "yes." Pastors David Platt and Mike Kelsey trace that thread from the unknown believers who planted the church at Antioch in Acts 11 to the 65-year legacy of MBC, 30 years of Access Ministry, and the launch of CityLife Church. Now we're casting a vision to start five new congregations across the DMV.

Your ordinary obedience matters more than you know. Let down your nets.

Leaving an Unimaginable Legacy (Start 5 | Acts 11:19-30; 13:1-4) | Let Down Your Nets | David Platt

How do we actually grow to become more like Jesus? Is it all up to God, or is it up to us? In this message from Philippians 2:12–13, we see that it isn't either/or. Spiritual growth is a partnership: God works for us, God works in us, we work with God, and we work with others.

Salvation is God's work from start to finish. He saves us from the penalty, power, and presence of sin. But God doesn't stop there. He transforms us from the inside out, giving us new desires and supernatural power through His Spirit. And because "God works it in, but we have to work it out," we're called to train for godliness with the dedication of an athlete, not on our own strength, but with the power He supplies. Finally, we're reminded that spiritual growth is a group project. God places us in the local church to help one another grow, so that we become a community of disciples rather than a marketplace of consumers.

How Spiritual Growth Happens (Disciple 10K | Philippians 2:12-13) | Let Down Your Nets | Mike Kelsey

Returning from sabbatical, Pastor David Platt reflects on the deep spiritual renewal he experienced through a "gospel scalpel to the soul," shifting from a mindset of performing for God to resting in His intimate love. Examining Matthew 28:18–20, he reveals that the Great Commission is not a burdensome program carried out in human effort, but an invitation to step into vital, daily communion with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. From that place of joyful abide, believers are empowered to join God's global mission to reach 20 million people across the DMV and the unreached world with the life-transforming gospel of Jesus.
