Often we wait for circumstances or people to change so that life might be better for us. Our soul waits for them and in their repentance we do hope. That's a pretty sad and desperate way to live.

Waiting for People to Change? - Psalm 130:5-6

Even as Israel experienced an emotional and spiritual response to freedom from exile in Babylon, we experience an emotional and spiritual response to freedom from sin. 
 
If you are free in Christ, make sure you call to mind how you were enslaved and how Christ made you free. The Scriptures teach that through the death He died, He rendered sin, death, and Satan ineffective and powerless over us. Call to mind the burden that rolled away at the cross. Call to mind the life-cleansing blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Forget you life which once was, press on and reach for what is ahead. All of your affection, hope, and joy is found in Heaven. We were exiles and strangers in this world and our home is with Christ.

Like a Dream - Psalm 126:1-4

What did you expect from the LORD today? Did you expect grace and strength to meet your trials? I believe that I am right with God. As His child, I believe I have the privilege of asking Him for help. However, my uprightness requires His activity in my life. My upright life will not support me if it is separated from God. We will never deserve God's help just because we are doing all the right things. The most upright person among this evening is as weak as all of us. If God left any of us to ourselves, we would know that that is true.

We love the Word because it is a peaceful reflection of the truth, a peaceful revelation of mercy, and a peaceful road-map through life. This peace stabilizes the mind and the life. 
 
The LORD would tell us: "Stand in the ways and see, ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; then you will find rest for your souls" (Jeremiah 6.16). The people to whom the LORD addressed these words replied, "We will not walk in it." It is terrible to think that we can make that same dreadful choice.

Where are the faithful? Where is the man to lead them? He's coming. His father will send him from a pasture to the battlefield. What intimidates you? What is that might leave you shattered and fearful? Is it the uncertainty of your financial situation? Is it a job that is absolutely demoralizing? Is it a dominating sin that has you in bondage? There is much to fear out there. There is much to leave us dismayed and greatly afraid. Time to refocus. Stop looking at Goliath and start looking at God.

God Is Good All the Time - Psalm 119:65-72

The words of God have the comfort we need in adversity. We must make sure our expectations of the world are realistic by tempering them with hope from Heaven. Trials are much more difficult to bear when we know we are to blame. There is laid up a crown of righteousness and a crown of glory for those who suffer the derision of the proud for Jesus' name.

Upside Down - Psalm 119:49-56

"I will walk at liberty, for I seek Your precepts" (Psalm 119.45). How is that we are at liberty in life if we love and meditate on the word of God. We gain the freedom of discernment, decisiveness, and delight.

How is it that the LORD considers a saint's death precious? He preserves my life by watching over me until I accomplish His will. He will avenge my death by bringing those responsible into account one day. It is important that we grieve over the death of the saints. It is important that we learn from he death of the saints.
