Congregational Bible Study May 6, 2020: Psalm 107: THE OBLIGATION OF PRAISE.

Part 2, Verses 33-43: GRATITUDE FOR GRACIOUS PROVIDENCE

Review what we learned about Psalm 107 last week:
What great O.T. deliverance does it celebrate?
What is its Theme?
What is the basic Outline of the Psalm?
What are the four Pictures of Peril and Deliverance described in this Psalm?

Outline for yourself verses 33-43. – pay attention to the “downs and ups”, and the “ups and downs”. Draught followed by Plenty; Prosperity followed by Calamity.

Verses 33-36:
How do these verses of draught and plenty, prosperity and brought low, describe our lives from a spiritual point of view? Psalm 63:1-4: Psalm 4:6, 7; Isaiah 41:17-20; Isaiah 44: 3-5
Does God send calamities today upon the earth “for the wickedness of them that dwell therein”?
How is Covid 19 calling us (you) to repentance?

Verses 37-41:
How do these verses proclaim the unrivaled Sovereignty of God?
Show from vs.40, 41 that God’s direction of all things is intended to expose the wisdom of the mighty as folly and at the same time to show His tender care for His poor and afflicted people.

Verses : 42, 43:
What is the two fold effect upon mankind when they see the Providence of God, vs. 4? Why do the Righteous rejoice and the wicked close their mouths?
When we “observe” (vs. 43) God’s providence at work in our country today in the corona virus, how do we see “the lovingkindness of the Lord”?
What lessons should we be learning from daily seeing God’s Providence over our lives?

COUPON QUESTIONS:
Read Lord’s Day 10 of the Heidelberg Catechism. What is the Truth of God’s Providence? Show from Psalm 107: 33-43 that God is the one who sends “fruitful and barren years…yea and all things come not by chance but by His Fatherly hand”.

Show from Scripture two times when God sent famine and draught to His people because of their sins, followed by God turning them back to Him and bestowing His blessings.
