In this parable, Jesus talks about a rich farmer who had so much that he worried about what to do with his abundance of goods.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This selfish man did not thank God for blessing him with plenty, and instead of sharing his wealth with the people around him, he decided to build himself greater barns and indulge in the flesh. God rebuked the man for being foolish and showed him the futility of all his labours as he would die that night, leaving behind his wealth to others.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We can never bring our wealth with us after we die. “...Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither...”( Job 1:21)
Nonetheless, we can lay up for ourselves treasures in heaven that will last for eternity!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matthew 6:20-21)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
All that we have comes from God and we are stewards of the resources that God has given to us. We lay our treasures in heaven when we use our resources for the glory of God; for example, we can give our time and money to further God’s Kingdom and support needy brethren and missions.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
All of us will have to give account of our stewardship when we see Christ face to face. May we be faithful stewards of what the Lord has given us!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Matthew 25:21 “His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”
