We cannot overemphasize the importance of rejoicing in the Lord. It is a wonderful testimony not only to succeeding generations of Christians but also to the contemporary unsaved population as well. There is no stronger testimony to the unsaved than a Christian who is truly happy in the Lord regardless of any negative circumstances. There is no worse or more negative testimony than a Christian who is unthankful, reluctant, or rebellious to the ideas of attending church, prayer, or activities such as giving. Griping, complaining, backbiting, criticism, and other negative actions will kill any attempt at a positive witness every time!
The Israelites were not to celebrate the Feast of Booths only if they felt like it or if they were qualified in some special way. They were to rejoice in it and remember with gratitude that the Lord had delivered them and continued to bless them through all their trials and throughout their generations (Bible Expositor and Illuminator Union Gospel Press, Fall Quarter 2022).
