We further discuss the section of Jesus' Olivet discourse where He explains what life is like up to the beginning of Daniel's 70th week. We begin by going to Luke 17:28-30 where Lot in Sodom was used as an illustration. Ordinary life characterized the situation there right up to the pouring out of wrath. We address the accusation some have made that those of us who believe in a pre-tribulation rapture are fearful and looking for escape from persecution. We point out that Christians have suffered persecution throughout the church age so that ordinary life during that age often has suffering. But none of that implies that we have always been in the tribulation period. The rapture is the promise of God, not a way out for timid Christians. Matthew 24:40 raises the question about whether "taken" can refer to the rapture. We are not claiming that the rapture will be "secret" as our critics claim, but that it is taught in the passages we are studying. Pastor Eric discusses several of the important Greek terms including the one for "be on the alert" and explains their meaning in context. Paul's material in 1Thessalonians 5 is pertinent to this discussion, as we point out.
