This is the last in our series on Bible prophecy from
Matthew 24. We now cover the warning part of the parable of the slaves where some think that the Master will not return for a long time and live worldly lives as if there will be no ultimate judgment. The Master will return suddenly and unexpectedly as we are warned throughout the section about the church age. The failure to take the warning about future judgment seriously causes unrighteous behavior by people who claim to be Christians. The key to avoid this outcome it to believe the promises of God. Pastor Eric explains how we must understand Matthew’s descriptions of Jesus’ teachings according to Matthew’s intent, not what people might commonly think. Matthew is concerned about status and how it is understood very differently by the surrounding culture than it is by God. We are to live in light of the imminent return of Christ even when that idea is mocked. There will be a coming judgment even though live goes on for now as it always has. All of the signs described in
Matthew 24 happen after the rapture and there are no signs that must be fulfilled before the rapture. It will happen suddenly and unexpectedly.
