"If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not He that pondereth the heaart conisder it? and He that keepeth thy soul, doth not He know it? and shall not He render to every man according to his works?"
A loaded verse for us to consider here. If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not - word study, know; This is a person that is reasoning with himself. Trying to find answers; trying to make excuses; trying to problem solve on his own. None of these things are correct. And has the potential to cause error. The flip side is that every question that is pondered is answered with God. So often all of us find ourselves in this place. 'If thou sayest. . .' is using a rhetorical synposis of sayings. From experience the writer has heard these things, thought on these things.
They are not simply pulled out of the air. They have merit because they have been used before. In wisdom, application of that which has been is ever so important. Learn from the past is this type of reasoning. 'behold, we knew it not' is claiming ignorance as an excuse. It is a legitmate excuse at times. And in other times, it is simply a lie. It is one thing for 3/4 of the world to say, 'We don't have a Bible and we don't know the Word of God.' Legitamate. But for so many Americans, a Bible is found everywhere and in every capacity of technology.
To simply say, 'I will not open, then I cannot be resposnible. I can say, 'I don't know'." This is the person that there lie will not hold. For they had the opportunity, but they chose to reject it. they will be judged accountable. The church in North America is found here today. siimply because the country and people may not know 'thus saith the Lord' is of no one's fault but their own. We are without excuse of ignorance on this. And the other thing that God is fully aware of, that there is much ignorance about many things of the kingdom. Therefore, He sends His Holy Spirit, the Teacher, to instruct in His ways. 'This is the way, now walk in it.' God seeks to remove the obstacle of hinderance of ignorance. It is not enough for yo to simply say, 'I don't know.' but to answer the next question, 'Why don't you know?" To live a lifetime, and never seek to learn, to know, to grow, to teach, or to apply it is not right. you will be weighed in the balances and found wanting.
