"Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:"
This is a leading verse into the next one. A transition verse for us. The previous verse, Solomon has observed a problem. This verse defines the problem and the last verse will determine its outcome. But all five verses that we have studied here in chapter 24: 30-34 are coupled together for our learning. Have you learned the lesson taught yet? Have you resolved to say in honest prayer, 'don't let this happen to me, Lord'? Notice the semi-colon at the end of the verse, it is not complete, it is only leading into the next. OUr study of this verse will not be as long as others, but let us see what it tells us by the Spirit's leading and instructing. Three times 'little' is used in this verse.
'A little sleep, a little slumber a little folding. . . ' It was never meant to be a lot, or much. And truly, a 'little' leaven leaventh the whole lump.' A little sin, keeps one from being holy; a little sin keeps one from heaven, just as much as lmany sins; a little sin, condemns one to hell, just as much as multiple sins. It is the little that should concern us much. Can we learn this lesson? Can we see its message and meaning? It never takes all, or much to keep us from God. Satan does not pour out a tons of things against us, to keep us from living for Him. It is always just a little. A little fun, a little time, a little self-indulgence and soon destruction. Oh, the value of this lesson is four fold for us, if we will consider and be instructed as Solomon. Solomon learned that 1000 wives and concubines was not all that was needed to tear is heart away from obeying God; one little wife or husband can do the same damage.
