"So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man."
The conclusion of these 5 veses of instruction and observation. This last verse of this series and the last verse of this chapter is the end result. Wisdom is to hear and change course, lest this prediction comes to pass. but if the instruction is not heeded, then this is their near future. so shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth - word study, come; the previous verse has set us up for this conclusion; 'Sleep, fold your hands, take it easy and then shall poverty come'. It is the lesson of instruction, 'if you do this. . . then this is what will happen'. Life experiences teach us that there are many things of cause and effect. WE know this in the spiritual world as well. Be lazy, sleep all the time, you will become poor. Spiritual poverty comes in like manner from the slothful, lazy soul. We see when good Christian, in Pilgrim's Progress, laid down for a little nap, how much time and place he lost. We think nothing of it, but it costs us much. We must remember that our life, duties and responsiblities, are not about us, they are about Him. Satan lies to us to tell us, we deserve it, we need it.
But in reality, let us seek the Lord as He sees fit. He knows our fraility and knows when we need rests. In this day and age, we cannot afford to remain or get to the place of spiritual poverty. There is so much need now, you cannot assume to pass off on others what God has entrusted to you. 'A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands and then poverty.' This spiritual condition is found in the church today. You hear the call several times in Scritpure: 'It is high time to awaken'; 'Arise, shine'; ''Awake, Awake; put on thy strength' What could you not watch with Me for one hour'. Are we to be found sleeping when our Lord returns? Are we to be found as JOnah asleep in the hull of the ship while the possible end nears? Let us understand the time, and the need and stir ourselves up. May God wake us up to busy doing His kingdom's business. May God wake us up to seek Him early. May God wake us up before its too late. Oh, church hear those words of Paris Reidhead, 'The church is largely vastly sleeping. And their saying, I want to sleep. But when God begins a revival, you cannot sleep.' Oh, God come in our midst, not to destroy but to awaken and cast off the unfruitful ways of sin and sloth. Turn our poverty into riches from Thee. He is able to do such. And thy want as an armed man - the thief will not work, and must steal to have;
