During Jesus time the jews worshipping God in synagogues. They preformed and outward form of religiosity while living entirely contrary to God’s will. Jesus led his disciples away from these religious meetings to martha’s house at bethany. Matthew 21:12-17
The Apostles placed even greater value on house meetings, in the homes of Mark, Gaius, Pricislla and Aquila.
