Who's in Charge? by Harold Vaughan Scripture Reading --2 Kings 22:1-2 "Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty and one years in Jerusalem. . . . And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left." Think of it, a king at age eight! How many eight-year-olds do you know who would make good kings? Josiah made a fantastic king because he walked in the footsteps of David his father. During the Middle Ages, kings lived in castles. Do you know who else lived in the castle? The royal family, soldiers, servants, cooks, the cupbearer, the joker, the dungeon keeper, and many others. The job of the king was to rule, so he sat on his throne and ruled all the subjects inside his castle. He was in charge. Occupying the throne meant he had authority over everyone in his kingdom. Your body is similar to a castle. Inside you is a Thinker, a Chooser, and a Feeler. These are the subjects in your kingdom. You think with your brain, choose with your will, and feel through your emotions. Someone is going to be in charge. Whoever occupies the throne of your heart will rule your castle. You were born with King SELF in charge of your castle. King SELF is a tyrant who wants everything for himself. When he's in control, all kinds of ugly things can happen. The only way for King JESUS to take control is by your dethroning King SELF. Someone will be in charge of your castle --SELF or JESUS. You can yield your members to Him. When He is on the throne of your heart, good things happen. Jesus is the LORD, and LORD means Boss, Ruler, or King. Jesus is kind and gracious. He came to impart His life to you. Will you yield yourself completely to Him? Consider: How does Romans 6:13 relate to this topic?
